Welcome to the Friends of Music & the Arts (FMA) website!
Friends of Music and the Arts in the Scarsdale schools continues to make new inroads into the arts community at the Scarsdale schools.
In addition to our yearly school gift program, which enables all K-12 grades to benefit from donations to their arts and music programs, FMA also offers donations to school clubs and provides awards and certificates to students whose achievements in music and the arts have been recognized. Just this past year, we helped enhance the guitar club at the Middle School by purchasing an amplifier so that students could perform on the electric guitar. We also helped with the funding of the newly formed clay club at the high school. We also added an art award at the high school in honor of Elisa Draper, a former teacher at the Quaker Ridge School.
FMA has donated funds to each of the seven schools so that they may purchase permanent display cases that will feature a constantly rotating show of student artwork, a project we initiated.
A sampling of FMA’s contributions this year include: $1,000.00 for two separate performances by professional musicians at Heathcote; $1,000.00 for 25 table-top easels, a new drum and a rolling instrument storage rack at Greenacres; $1,000.00 for cowbells, an Agoge bell and other percussion instruments, plus a speaker system to enhance the sound quality of the school performances at Fox Meadow; $1,016.00 Suzuki Chromatic Tone Chimes for Edgewood; and $1,080.00 for a Sprano Metallophone and glass art display case at Quaker Ridge. At the High School, we funded the purchase of 5 hand-held digital recorders and a permanent glass display case to house student sculptures.
To honor our district’s art and music teachers, we host a lovely Staff Appreciation Luncheon in May, to which we invite the art/music teachers from all seven schools. We advocate for the arts in the district and keep an open dialogue with the art, music and drama faculty and administrators system-wide.
Our Friends of Music and the Arts website will provide the entire community with information about what’s going on in the arts and members will have access to information on many programs which are available to students each year.
We hope that you will find this website a valuable addition to the community and take this opportunity to join our organization.
Please help us support the programs that support your children’s education!
